What is Google Webmaster Tool?
Before knowing about webmaster tool, We need to understand Google Crawler.

• What is Crawler?

Crawler or Spider is a web program which behold or observe content from your website and create an entry for search engine so that your webpage can be searched by web users.

Webmaster tool allows website owner to manually instruct google crawler to observe content of the page. In addition to this, Google webmaster tool also allows following features.

1. Gives the technical details and helps to understand problem with the page, If any.
2. Shows you who is linking to your site.
3. It shows you if some page is removed from the google index. You can manually add it by using google webmaster tool.

Althogh you can add any site to webmaster tool, You need to verify it in order to get technical details. Webmaster tool has to verify that you are an actual owner of the website. Webmaster tool gives you 2 different alternative to verify your site.

1. By adding <> ( Meta tag ) in your home page.
2. By uploading file with given name.

If you are using Blogger, You can follow these steps.

1. Select 1st option ( Add a meta tag) from webmaster tool.
2. Copy the <> tag given by webmaster tool. you will have to paste it in your home page under <> section. It looks like this.. < name="verify-v1" content="JUonbjxLe8UD+dAnSZvk+DAyqytDibSWEW1DL12MuvI=">
3. Sign in to your blog.
4. Go to "Edit Posts".
5. Click on "Layout" tab.
6. Click on "Edit HTML". This will show you the html code of your template. You can paste your <> tag here exactly after <> tag.
7. Save your template.
8. Then click on "Verify" from webmaster tool. webmaster tool will crawl your home page to find this <> tag and consider you as an owner of the website.
